Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Available For UK Pre-Order
The brand new (and third) incarnation of Microsoft's tablet/laptop hybrid will be available in the UK from 28/08/2014 according to the tech giant's website.
The marketing drive for the Surface Pro 3 carries the confident strapline "The tablet that can replace your laptop" and now eager UK 'early adopters' can place a pre-order for the new device.
On first-glance the specifications for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 are impressive. Prices start at £639 (inc. VAT) - which gets you 64GB of on-board storage, a fourth generation Intel i3 Processor and 4GB of RAM and go up to an eye-watering £1649 (inc. VAT) for the highest 512GB/i7/8GB specification model.
The Surface Pro 3 has a stunning 12" HD display, comes pre-loaded with Windows 8.1 Pro and can also be used with the new Surface Pro Pen which allows the user to quickly make notes using OneNote software or to enjoy a more natural experience when using art applications. If you are a 'scribbler' and yearn for the bygone days when it was more normal to carry a notepad and pen on the train than a laptop or tablet then the Surface Pro 3 could well be the answer you've been looking for.
You can connect your peripherals and transfer files via a full-size USB 3.0, microSD card reader and Mini DisplayPort and keep in touch with family, friends and colleagues on Skype (pre-loaded) using the two 5MP HD cameras, front and rear-facing, Stereo microphones and Stereo speakers with Dolby sound.
Leaving the specifications aside for one moment the really neat thing about the Surface Pro 3 is how it seamlessly transforms from fully-blown laptop to portable tablet. The multi-position kickstand and Surface Pro 3 Type Cover (that doubles as a laptop keyboard) are adjustable to make typing on your lap or desk both fast and comfortable.
As long as the spec you need is within your budget then the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 looks like it could be a genuine contender for your next business laptop (and tablet) and perhaps now the age of the hybrid device is truly here.
