How To Use Free Wi-Fi As A Marketing Tool

Do you own a business where you see a lot of footfall? Could you be benefiting from offering free Wi-Fi to customers? Do you offer free Wi-Fi but don't see any return? Here's our quick guide to using free Wi-Fi as a marketing tool.

How To Use Free Wi-Fi As A Marketing Tool

Advertise That You Provide Free Wi-Fi For Customers

This seems obvious but can often be forgotten by business owners. If you are supplying free Wi-Fi then tell your customers about it on your website, promotional material and on notices around the premises itself.

Brand Your Landing Page

If the facility is available it is a great idea to brand your access landing page. With many Wi-Fi hotspot providers offering this service you can tie your landing page in with your company image and ethos and extend the customer's experience into the online world.

Ask For Something In Return

You can offer promotions or new product information and even invite users to opt-in to marketing lists or connect through Social Media should they wish. Some more advanced set-ups can actually invite customers to 'Like' your Facebook Page or 'Follow' you on Twitter in exchange for free Wi-Fi. You would be amazed at how generous people are when you have given them something in return!

Re-direct To A Custom URL

Moving beyond just a landing page, another simple but powerful feature of some Wi-Fi hotspot providers is the option to re-direct users to a URL (web address) of your choice. Of course this would probably be your website and, if you have a modern, mobile optimised website, you might be able to encourage some customers to surf around for a little while or bookmark the page for later. One good example of this could be a coffee shop providing information about the beans used in the production of the coffee to get customers excited about their hot beverage.

Learn About Your Customers

Some free Wi-Fi providers provide the facility to collect user demographics such as age, gender and location, length of internet use, total amount of users and data usage. This level of analytics can help you to deploy your marketing messages to the right people, at the right time.

Get Social

As mentioned earlier your customers can be invited to connect with your Social Media accounts when they access your free Wi-Fi hostspot and the benefit of this is not only reaching your customers but their wider circle of family and friends too. You can appear in their social feeds and get even more people talking about your business.

If you would like to discuss the benefits of a free Wi-Fi installation for your business or even have one installed then please contact us for more information.
